At Mortlake you have three choices for the committal of the coffin. The curtains can close around the coffin, the
doors at the rear of the catafalque, upon which the coffin rests, can open and the coffin can be manually wound
from view or the coffin can remain until everyone has left the chapel. Either way the coffin is eventually received in
an ante-room whose walls are
adorned with tiles depicting the four seasons. From there it is transferred on a raised bier to the crematory.
